Coming Attractions: Tuesday, May 23, 2007 Ending Poverty by 2012? What's wrong and right with such a big goal We're asking to end extreme poverty worldwide in just five years. This is undeniably very ambitious, but who could disagree that it would be a great accomplishment? Not surprisingly, some question if it's realistic. We've even been told that such an ambitious, specific goal could be harmful... Here's how and why we think it can really happen... Latest additions: Tuesday, May 15, 2007 The Delicate Task of Asking People to Give More All of us benefit when people give more, often most of all the giver. But it's not always easy to ask. Unless handled with care, it can even be harmful to ask a generous person to give more. I think Hearts & Minds should not hesitate to tell the wealthy nations of the world that we should give more. But one has to be a bit more careful when asking individuals to give more. Hearts & Minds’ basic approach will continue to be that we appreciate anything our donors and volunteers do to help. We don’t want to leave anyone feeling that we're using ingratitude to pressure them for more. Still, I also think it's good to gently, tactfully encourage people - including those already helping us - to see that they have great, untapped powers to do even greater good. And I think our overall public message (when not aimed at one individual) should be that more is just about always better, even necessary. Here's one very good way you can can use even a little of your time or a donation to make a very big difference: Help End Global Hunger and Poverty by 2012 Join us today. Together, we can change the world. Previous blog: How Much Should People Give? | All blog entries Comments and Questions: greatchange@gmail.com Top of Page
