The vast majority of scientists agree that millions of tons of pollution released every day by cars and industry is a major cause. In the next 100 years, they predict, temperatures could increase up to another 8°F. This could severely affect our climate. More powerful hurricanes such as Katrina are one of many warming signs. Global warming could severely harm agriculture and the environment - and flood millions of people. We can suffer increasingly severe hurricanes, heat waves, floods and droughts, a drastic rise in sea levels, and other dangerous effects. Diseases such as malaria, formerly only in the hottest climates, can spread in our country, too. We need to reduce pollution and global warming, helping to protect our planet now and for future generations. There's plenty we can do. I urge you to pass legislation for:
