Dave Peterson,
Chairman, is Senior Director of the Africa program at the National Endowment for Democracy. He
supervises six full time staff members and grants to more than 200 nonprofit organizations. Since 1988, his annual funding has grown
from $200,000 to $7 million.
Daniel Borochoff, Vice
Chairman, is founder and president of the
American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) since 1992. This nationally
acclaimed charity watchdog addresses the need for research and analysis on
charity finances, fundraising and governance. AIP provides information on
wise giving to thousands of concerned individuals, foundations and
corporations. Dave
Schwier, Treasurer, is a practicing attorney since
1999. Starting in 2002, he works in New Jersey as a claims manager with a
major insurance company. Mr. Schwier handles a wide range of complex claims
associated with environmental contamination. Priyanka Sharma, board member, brings to Hearts & Minds more than seven years of international management experience both in the for profit and not-for-profit arenas. She has a BA in Economics from the University of Delhi, an MA in Economics from Meerut University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law from WWF-India. She served for several years as Hearts & Minds' Manager of Fund Raising, Law and Regulatory Compliance.
Katie Lusk, board member, is Hearts & Minds Manager of Editing, Fundraising and Volunteer Recruitment. After graduating from Pepperdine in June 2006 with a degree in English: Writing and Rhetoric, Katie moved from Los Angeles to New York with her husband in October. She’s currently an editor for the Association of New Jersey Chiropractors’ newsletter and a freelance writer.
William
"Bill" Blackman,
board member, is founder and president of Hearts and Minds Network, started in 1996. Since 1981,
Mr. Blackman has worked
with both small,
new ventures, and large, well-established organizations, achieving exceptional results.
For
example, he was retained to help launch the
American Institute of Philanthropy,
working on strategic planning, publicity, copywriting and design. Within six months, AIP
attained substantial funding, membership, and coverage by more than 400 newspapers, radio and
TV stations nationwide. All governing board members serve on the board without compensation. Along with many more volunteers, they share an interest in building involvement in our communities, addressing society's difficult challenges, promoting new ways of understanding, fostering a strong sense of compassion and empowering millions of people to make effective, positive changes in our world.
