A wakeup call "It as a shock when the World Trade Center towers fell," we all agreed. But Islamofascist terrorists tried in 1993, exploding a bomb in the World Trade Center garage, a horrible enough event in itself. At least, fortunately, the bomb was not powerful enough to bring the entire building down. A plan to blow up many NYC bridge and tunnels was stopped. Still, no one could foresee terrorists flying airplanes into buildings, Condoleezza Rice said after 9/11. But a terrorist linked with the group behind the 1993 World Trade Center plot, Abdul Hakim Murad, was captured in 1995. During interrogation, he revealed a complex plot to use hijacked airplanes as terrorist weapons. This included flying planes into the World Trade Center, the White House, CIA headquarters and other major American targets. Still, "9/11 was a major wakeup call," many people agree. But with 20-20 hindsight, we all could have seen it coming. Terrorists already had killed thousands of civilians in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Like Hitler, they told the entire world in advance that they wanted war. Their rhetoric, broadcast to the world through Al Jazeera and other media, called for a worldwide war against "the infidels". As their actions show, that is anyone and everyone who doesn't agree with their fanatic distortion of Islam or just happens to be walking down the street where the terrorists explode their bombs, often designed for maximum harm to innocent civilians. Muslims were not spared. Are we winning this war? But fanatic hatred of the West is spreading throughout the Muslim world. Pakistan, the source of many terrorists, has the nuclear bomb. It is far from guaranteed their government will always be on our side. There's plenty more Pakistan could do now, but that is politically difficult since millions of Pakistanis support Al Qaeda and the Islamofascist agenda. Iran is actively making weapons-grade nuclear fuel. They claim this is only for peaceful purposes. But Iran lied before about their nuclear programs. And weapons-grade uranium is not needed for a nuclear power plant... The list goes on and on... Many attacks were stopped. Thousands of innocent lives were saved. That is very commendable. But terrorism will keep spreading, unless we act far more effectively. And there's no guarantee terrorist won't get their hands on weapons of mass destruction. Entire cities could be destroyed. We face a ruthless enemy who never hesitates to kill civilians wherever they think this advances their Islamofascist goals. And they are expert communicators. Though most of their victims are Muslims, support for terrorism is rapidly growing among more than one billion Muslims worldwide. We can win this war, but the way we're going so far, it seems unlikely, at least not before millions more people die. There is plenty more we can do:
How We can Really Win this War.
