Portal to Effective Self-Help, Volunteering and Inspiration

NEW YORK, NY - Expanding its public service work to Italy, Hearts & Minds Network is launching an Italian-language website with links to volunteer and self-help organizations in Italy. Dedicated to Italians and Italophiles everywhere, www.change.net/ital already has over 40 links to helpful organizations.

Hearts & Minds takes a stand against the cynicism, inertia and apathy that keeps millions of people from fully addressing urgent needs in our local communities and worldwide. This non-profit organization covers poverty, the environment, human rights, addictions and other important issues. Their English-language website - www.change.net - online for five years, is providing helpful, potentially life saving information to over 200,000 people. Altogether, this Internet portal links to over 400 helpful resources nationwide in the USA and around the world.

Dedicated to providing "Inspiration for Change" through the power of the Internet, Hearts & Minds was founded in 1996 by William Blackman, with a background in marketing, mass media and sales. He combined his professional knowledge with a passion for provoking change. Blackman is currently working full time without pay for Hearts and Minds, as he has since 1997. The result is a web-based information clearinghouse built by more than 230 volunteers including Italian citizens and Italian Americans..

The new, Italian website speaks to all who feel the need to help those around them or change their lives, including retirees, professionals and students. Dave Peterson, Chairman of the Hearts & Minds governing board, says "Rather than prescribe one set answer, we encourage discussion and involvement to bring people together."

"Our basic message is that each individual has untapped power to make things better. We work to provide effective ways to do so," says founder Blackman. "Mi piace molto aiutare anche gli Italiani!" he says. Blackman an enthusiastic Italophile who gained conversational abilities in Italian in less than a year.

Long-term plans include websites in other languages, offices in Italy and around the globe.
