It's very helpful to provide some info before donating your computer(s):

  • if it is in good working order
  • brand name and model number
  • year bought
  • megabytes (MB) of RAM
  • hard drive size in megs
  • megahertz (MHz) processor speed
  • what licensed software it comes with and whether this includes the original CDs

If you're not sure, one of their tech people might help you.

       This site is a plain text site seeking donations of computer equipment.
       An organization that recycles old computers to promote education and development everywhere in the world. Very difficult to read the site. -EL

       The National Cristina Foundation site provides information on how to donate or become a member.
      
NCF's goal resonates in its public awareness message, "Machines you can write off. People you can't." Join us in helping to realize this goal!"

       This site provides very useful information regarding computers and how some safety precautions can be taken to protect children from indecent material. Has links to many computer donation placement organizations.

       Provides information about certain projects to help supply people with usable items, such as computers, furniture, electronics and other items.
      
"Collects discarded and surplus business equipment from area, regional and national businesses. We bring this equipment into our 50,000 square foot warehouse and refurbish, rebuild or repair the items if necessary. This equipment is made available to our primary concern - the non-profit community, and to general public secondary markets. Sales to secondary markets help fund our environmental, educational and human service programs and help keep prices lower to our charities."
       Well rounded organization that accepts usable business furniture and equipment and offers an impressive program for junior and high school students called Learn and Earn. EL
       This organization specifically caters to the Kansas City area and has information on donating everything from toys to computers. -KHK

* Many Organizations will donate to individuals or other non-profit organizations.       

     If your equipment is in good working order, the Salvation Army and other places listed under "Thrift Shops" in the yellow pages may accept it, though they may not make pick-ups.  You can also recycle your computer by contacting either your computer's manufacturer or an agency listed below:

     Here you can list things you're willing to give away online for free. Not as directly beneficial as giving to a charity, but at least keeps it in use and out of landfills:
