While some groups work on government affairs, AGRM works on a
more personal level with the poor and homeless. Its 250 inner city missions address
poverty through programs that "promote responsibility, eliminate dependency, and
encourage self-sufficiency." AGRM also provides research reports on the issue of
poverty. This organization has been around for more than one hundred and
twenty-five years.
Good tips on how to help the homeless; e.g., don't give
money, instead give food. Another site posts employment opportunities in food and shelter

conferences. You can donate necessary clothes to men and women, and toys to children. You

This site is easy to navigate and contains a lot of
information about upcoming events and how to help in many different areas on homelessness.

The Doe Fund's Ready, Willing & Able program provides a
holistic, structured environment in which homeless men and women can restore their
self-esteem and regain power over their lives by becoming self-sufficient and productive
members of society.
This program has been extremely successful in finding
jobs for the homeless community. Finding employers and connecting them with needy workers
has been its main source of work. The site tells success stories and how to get

A very inspirational site. It explores how you can help
build houses and hope. Read true stories about families around the world who were given

The primary goal of Mamma's Hands is to reunite the homeless
with their families. In addition to providing meals and blankets, Mamma's Hands has a
program that provides the homeless with cellular phone access, free airtime
and the ability to
locate and contact their families. Mamma's Hands also helps them with rehabilitation and
job seeking to help find their way off the streets.
This organization focuses on helping homeless women with

A national advocacy network of homeless persons, activists,
service providers, and others committed to ending homelessness through public education,
policy advocacy, grassroots organizing and technical assistance. Focuses work in four areas: housing justice, economic justice, health care justice, and civil
rights. NCH provides information on policy developments and pending legislation that
effects the homeless.
Contains many addresses for homeless coalitions all over the
US, regularly updated. Gives lots of opportunities for women to get involved; for

The Law Center strives to place homelessness in the larger
context of poverty. By taking this approach, the Law Center aims to address homelessness
as a very visible manifestation of deeper causes: the shortage of affordable housing,
insufficient income, and inadequate social services.
This program mostly gives information about current
legislature and government activity pertaining to education, housing, civil rights, and
income of homeless citizens. It also gives detailed information of upcoming events related

Following "the mainstream of Christian belief and its
articles of faith emphasizing God's saving purposes with education, relief of poverty and
other charitable objects beneficial to society," the Salvation Army helps thousands
of individuals escape poverty and drug addiction.
Does a lot of good work with the homeless. I found its
site made it a little difficult to find info on how you can get involved. I suggest
calling for that info. Fill out a registration form on the website to sign up to be
a volunteer.
A helpful and user-friendly site. Find out how you can
join the Salvation Army, and look over descriptions of positions you could
