Slavery
What you can do

Learn more about slavery

You can help end slavery by volunteering with us, buying fair trade or writing to  politicians to help raise awareness. Taking action is vital.

Spread the Word!

A bill already in Senate committee, the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, S. 1301, can improve the anti-slavery effort. You can help by supporting this bill. You'll find contact information for the President, your Congressperson and Senators here: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

If you have time, politicians consider handwritten letters even more effective. Writing by hand shows that you think this issue is worth more of your time:

You can also use these letters as a model: Write to Your Senator, Congressperson and/or the President! If you have trouble with this link, here's the same sample letters:

For your Senators:

Your Name
Your Street Address, Apt. Number (if any)
City, State, Zip Code
(optional) Your Phone Number

(Today's Date)

The Honorable ____ (full name of your Senator)
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator ___ (their full name):

An estimated 27 million people are enslaved globally today, 1 million in the US alone.

By renewing the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2011, S. 1301, we can help enforce anti-slavery laws, shift financing to the Justice Department who is better equipped to handle this issue, and increase victim assistance.

This bill already has helped many victims in a number of ways. For example, a hotline funded by this act has taken 49,000 calls, connected 5,770 potential victims with services and provided more than 2,155 law-enforcement tips.

S. 1301 is reported by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. It is waiting to be passed on to the Senate. You can help by co-sponsoring this legislation.

Please let me know when and how you are actively supporting these urgent reforms.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
