One's first step in wisdom is to question everything - and
one's last is to come to terms with everything. When something is finally obvious that should have
been obvious years before, we call it common sense.
Seek the wisdom of the ages, but look at the world through the eyes
of a child. The heart is wiser than the intellect. The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to
the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth. Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a
mistake when you make it again. I do not think much of a man who does not know more today than he
did yesterday. A short saying often contains much wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge, rightly applied. When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to
have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished by how
much the old man had learned in 7 years. Be happy. It’s one way of being wise. Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire
it. Sometimes I lie awake at night and ask, ‘Where have I gone wrong?’ Then a
voice says to me, ‘This is going to take more than one night.’ Previous page on Wisdom
