Please note: Starting June 1, 2008, Hearts & Minds may hold info sessions and other meetings in a new location. Please call before visiting.

For visits until then, w we we strongly recommended you print and bring these entire directions for your first visit. We're easy to reach in a very safe, pleasant neighborhood, but first-time visitors often have trouble finding us.

Hearts & Minds is in Morningside Heights on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City.

We're right on Broadway, but even if you know the city very well, please bring this whole web page, including the helpful photos and our phone number below.

We're a little below sidewalk level, so new visitors often pass right by. Others get confused by the fact that there's two 116th Street subways stops on the red line (its color on most subway maps). Those two stops are far apart.

How to Get to the Hearts & Minds Office

By Subway
        From downtown or midtown Manhattan: Take the #1, 2 or 3 train to 96^th St. (This is West 96^th Street in Manhattan). These subway lines are indicated by red dots on the standard subway map and run along the West Side of Manhattan (on the left-hand side of the map).
       If you’re on an express (#2 or 3) train, transfer to the uptown local (#1) train at 96^th St. Take this train three more stops to the 116^th Street ("Columbia University") station.  This station is actually closer than the one at 125th St. and Broadway. Walk uptown to 122nd St. and Broadway. We are located on the right-hand (eastern) side of the block.

Please Note!!!:  If you're on the #2 or 3, be sure to get off the train at 96^th St., even if it’s on the local track. Above 96th St., these trains go in a different direction and stop at a very different 116th Street stop, quite far away.

       From uptown and the Bronx: If you live near a stop on the #1 line, you can take the #1 train directly to 116th St. Otherwise, take the # 2 or 3 train to 96th St. and Broadway and (important!) transfer to the #1 local uptown train to 116th Street as described above.

Just head down the stairs next to where we're standing...

and you'll see our storefront, just below sidewalk level.

By Bus
       You can take the M4, M60 or M104 bus directly to 122nd St. and Broadway. Other nearby bus routes are the M5 and M11. If you take the M5, get off around 122nd St., and then walk east two blocks to Broadway. For the M11, walk west one block to Broadway.

By Car
      Take the Henry Hudson Parkway to the 125th St. exit. Head east under the Riverside Drive bridge, one block further, to Broadway.

      You can park on the street. There are also local parking garages. The GMC Garage is located on 122nd Street (Seminary Row) between Broadway and Amsterdam. It's on the south (downtown) side of the street, closer to Broadway. The Riverside Church Parking Garage is located on 120th Street between Claremont Avenue and Riverside Drive. A little further away, St. Luke's hospital has a parking garage at 114th Street, east of Broadway. The 512-520 Garage is located at the corner of 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The Hearts & Minds Office
       From 116th St., walk uptown on Broadway. Hearts and Minds is on the east side of the street, between 121st and 122nd St. It is about 50 feet north of the Broadway au Lait Cafe.
